I know, I know, I can do it by hand. But my lumpy, misshapen hamburgers don't look good enough for blog pictures, so I broke down and bought a hamburger press.

The best rummage sale item I ever got was a 1950's-60's metal "Foodco" hamburger press. 50 cents.

5 to 6 ounces...I'm aiming for 5.

How much beef do you use per patty for the 1/2 inch thickness?

It is a Weston hamburger press:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002HBIAW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0002HBIAW&linkCode=as2&tag=dadcoodin09-20&linkId=ADX4WILJLN7LBDNK

What is the brand of the press? I like the idea of adjustable depth when making burgers for the kids

It's good, I like it...but it's also the only one I've tried. It's similar to a tortilla press, and has an adjustable depth - which I always leave set to the same 1/2 inch thickness. The wax papers are expensive, but useful.

Hey Mike, I'd like to hear your review of the press. I've bought and tried a handful and just have not found one that I can give a ringing endorsement to! Maybe some other readers have comments as well.
